Monty and Morgion 029: Dark Merger Pt. VI
A Moment of Silence

10Jan03 (Monthenor): I was reminded again last night that the Tremors movies kick ass. Thank you, SciFi! For some reason, Morgion went into number 3 remembering only pain, but he came around. Their quirky humor and self-deprecation works perfectly, balanced against some decent direct-to-video special effects. I would SO buy a boxed set.

Oh, and you know what else? Somebody else likes my video. You know who it is? Frellin' Red Delicious themselves!!

01.11.03 (Morgion):

Since I woke up today at 2:30pm-ish, and I had a nice two hour nap yesterday afternoon, and… damn, I can't remember when I woke up yesterday, but that's not important. What is important is that my sleep schedule is now completely fuxored. Oh well. What was my point?

Oh yes! I hate Wing Commander. Not only does it have Freddie Prinze Jr. and Matthew Lillard (which isn't so unusual… I swear they signed some contract with Satan for fame and fortune and their eternal linkage was the catch), it tries to be a submarine-and-fighter-pilot-in-space movie. Those two genres shouldn't be combined. The former include things like "aerodynamics", "silent running", "gravity", and "up"; the latter… it's a damn vacuum… you get the idea.

Yes, Tremors is a good time. I don't know about the prospects of a serialization… but that brings up my next point. Sci-Fi president Bonnie Hammer recently commented on why Farscape—a Jim Henson legacy with more panache and soul than many dramatic television programs, let alone science fiction dramas—is going to die this season. The reason: an unfavorable cost-to-ratings ratio.

Then we take a look at Stargate SG1, one of Sci-Fi's recent acquisitions. Even in reruns, the ratings have been phenomenal. What's the difference? Bonnie thinks Stargate made it better than Farscape because "[Stargate's] not serialized." I'll give you that. But why ditch Farscape when it has such critical acclaim and fan backing? If it's because there isn't enough money to keep it going, why is that?

Maybe it's because Sci-Fi buys things like Capricorn One, staring *snicker* OJ Simpson, and their new *cough* Prime series, Tracker (I'll let the top-ranking user recommendation speak for the show's quality)… oh, and how could I forget… Wing Commander.

See, even my ranting is purposeful and coherent; at least this time.
